It is a rare occasion that we send out two newsletters so close together, but time is of the essence.
You see, the kids have just completed their second ever major artworks (which are being packed to fly to Singapore as I type) where they will be exhibited and on sale at the Irish Ambassadors’ residence next Monday. As we felt with their first exhibition, we couldn't imagine their beautiful artworks being sold without giving our long term Gecko friends (that's you) the opportunity to see and appreciate their creative talents AND to bid on your favourites first!
A JOURNEY OF CULTURE AND CREATION
In 2010, the Gecko kids went on an excursion to explore the bas reliefs on the ancient walls of Angkor Wat Temple. They took photographs of their favourite details, and with the help of past and present temple guides - Pouv, Chhai and Moony - learned with interest about the stories of their Ancestors.
As part of their art class with Cambodian artist Savann Oun, the Geckos have spent the past six months bringing their paintings to life with colour and emotion. As Pichet said "It was difficult yet exciting to imagine colours and details of those times." This is only their second attempt at acrylic on canvas and it is amazing to see how far they have come.
You can view the paintings and the stories behind them on our Facebook album, there are even adorable insights from the kids on how their paintings made them feel.
If you would like to bid, please leave a comment with your name on the photo, or drop us a line at sponsor@greengeckoproject.org. Tania will add your bid to the silent bidding form on the evening. Opening bid is a worthy $150. As always, 100% of the proceeds will go back into directly supporting the kids. Bidding closes on Saturday 5 March at 5pm (AEST).
Thanks to our friends at the Irish Embassy, Ispahan and Hotel de la Paix for making this exhibition fundraiser possible. Thank you to Mary Black for being our special guest.
We hope you enjoy the artworks and feel as proud about them as we do!
